Links

Don't expect to find anything too serious here.  Links to mental illness pages are included in the articles, so I haven't reproduced them here.  There are many links that are just plain fun.  I like fun.  Fun is my friend.

Candyboots features a wonderful selection of Weight Watcher's recipe cards from 1974, and The Gallery of Regrettable Foods adds to my conviction that the good old days were not all sunshine and roses.  Sometimes they were Melon Mousse and Frankfurter Spectacular.  Cate's Garage Sale Finds branches out to explore not only frightening foods, but evil crafts and more!

X-E Entertainment remembers our childhood - if by "our" you mean "grew up in the eighties."  There's a huge archive of articles, which can be searched, as well as a bunch of old commercials to download.  Be sure to read the article where he explores whether or not Nads Hair Remover is, as its advertising claims, actually edible.  The language, especially in the older articles, is NOT G-rated, so keep that firmly in mind.  The Jones Soda reviews, for Christmas 2004, Halloween 2005 and Christmas 2005 are also fun.  I'm amazed that he managed to get a panel of people to taste flavors like Brussels Sprout and Turkey & Gravy.

Speaking of edible, Bad-Candy.com takes some amazingly icky looking candies out for a taste test.  Don't worry about the "racially slanted humor" line in their banner.  There's an explanation for that in the "about" page.  Want to check out some other candy reviews?  The Candy Blog is well-written and sorted by brand, type or score.  Candy Addict covers just about anything you might want to know about candy, from candy art to gross candy like chocolate covered pork rinds.  Candy Critic has a nice assortment of Asian candy reviews.

The Comics Curmudgeon.  Snotty commentary abounds in this blog.  Don't go if you're a die-hard For Better or For Worse fan.

Speaking of comics, visit Mister Kitty's Exxtra page for stupid comics, found objects and other detritus familiar to garage sales and junk shops everywhere.  Seanbaby explores moronic comic ads, including the Hostess ads I remember reading as a kid.  I thought they were weird then, and my memory was accurate.  Superdickery goes in depth, looking at comic book covers, panels and strips to confirm that, yes, Superman is a dick.  He has other superheroes, too, almost all from the DC universe.

If you're interested in strange products, and don't want to go to garage or thrift shops, no problem!  They come up with Strange New Products every day!  I mean, strange, like topless sandals and camera mounts for soda bottles.  Coolbuzz is along the same lines.

The world is a strange place sometimes.  Simply Dumb, News of the Weird, CNews - Weird News and Ananova - Quirkies bring together strange happenings from around the world.  Fortean Times goes even further.  It's primarily a printed magazine, but their website includes some of their more interesting articles about inexplicable and strange phenomena.
